Maintaining your Motivation
No matter what voyage you are undertaking, you will not get far without motivation. But how do you maintain your motivation when the going gets tough; when it seems like everything in your life is out to stop you reaching that wonderful destination?
It’s all about the willpower. I’ve lost over 10kg in less than three months due, principally, to will power. Of course there have been other factors, a good dieting plan, the support of a very patient and loving man, the encouragement of others. Those other factors seem to be far away however when the chocolate craving sets in. All I’m left with at that point is will power.
In pursuing a career in freelance writing there have been moments (already) where I’ve sought to throw in the metaphorical towel, and surrender to the difficulty of getting paid work. Yet here I am, still typing away, still searching for different methods to get my name known, and still maintaining my motivation.
There are many ways that I go about increasing my willpower, and therefore maintaining my motivation; perhaps I’ll mention some more in the days and weeks to come, but for now I’m just going to mention one.
Positive Confession
The second you give in to negativity your battle is lost. To keep your motivation levels high you need to keep your confession positive; in short you need to let yourself know, every single day, that you can do it.
This may sound like a small point, perhaps even an unessential and frivolous one, but the second you can start convincing yourself that you are capable of achieving your wildest dreams is the second you will begin to attain them.
Sometimes it may be difficult. You may go through periods where you simply do not believe that you are good enough to do it. Even in these periods it is absolutely essential that you be telling yourself that you can, no matter if it feels like the most foolish thing you could be saying.
Take a step back from being your worst critic (I’m sure I’m guiltier of that than most) and imagine you’re giving advice and encouragement to a friend; stand in front of a mirror if it helps.
In everything you do remember that each second that passes is a second you can’t get back. You don’t have enough time to spend moping in negativity; fill your mind with positive thoughts and the sure and certain knowledge that nothing is impossible.
Don’t get to the end of your life and regret that you never tried.

Yes I agree, telling oneself everday that you can do it is a positive motivator. I enjoyed my stop here and I am going to put your blog up on my blogroll so that I can come back and visit again.
