That Tuesday Feeling
I dispute the common opinion that a Monday is the worst day of a standard Monday – Friday, 9 – 5 job. On a Monday you still have the adrenalin high from the weekend to keep you going through the day. Granted, it can be depressing realising that you’ve got another four days before feeling that freedom again, but it is not at the same level as the ‘Tuesday Blues’.
Wednesday is a good day; ‘hump day’ as some of my colleagues dub it. You can safely say that you’re getting through the week; you’ve scaled the mountain that is the monotony of your job and now you’re ambling happily down the other side.
Thursdays are close enough to the weekend for the excitement to kick in. I may have two days left but then I’m free! The world is my oyster! The time will fly by!
Friday. Friday is always a good day. The almost tangible buzz of excitement floating around the office. The freely given smiles of colleagues you would normally shy away from. Everyone knows that this is it; the last day.
That leaves us with Tuesday. There is no excited buzz on Tuesday and the weekend adrenalin has been sapped by Monday. You’re far enough away from the middle of the week to feel that the mountain is utterly unclimbable, and far enough from the weekend that it seems but a distant dream.
Tuesday. The office is subdued. The usual “what did you do this weekend?” chatter is silenced, leaving the masses with nothing to enquire about. The day drags by; the clocks taunting you with their incessantly slow ticking.
Even Tuesday evening hosts a grey raincloud; the week ahead looms like a shadow ready to take the fun out of your days through the usual work routine.
I think it’s safe to say that I have far too much time to think.
